Breastfeeding Does Not Cause Sagging

According to Dr. Amma Benin, head of the pediatric department at the International Maritime Hospital, breast sagging is a physiological process, and nursing is not one of the known causes.

She said that some women already had drooping breasts before they begin breastfeeding, proving that breastfeeding would not cause breast sagging.

There are ladies who have never nursed but nonetheless have sagging breasts since the condition is physiological. The simple passing of time is the most frequent cause," she stated.

She refuted the notion that breast milk alone was insufficient for infants when discussing "Addressing the Health Needs of Children, Adolescents and Women, a Sure Way to Building a Healthy Society."

Breastfed kids develop nicely, put on weight, frequently pee, and pass stool, all signs that they are getting enough milk.

Dr. Benin made this statement at the 16th Stakeholder Engagement of the Tema Regional Office of the Ghana News Agency, which served as a forum for state and non-state actors to discuss current events.

According to her, neither breastfeeding nor milk production are impacted by the size of the breasts, therefore women who are having trouble latching on to their babies can visit their local hospital for the required checkup.

Dr. Benin advised mothers who, for any reason, had to stop nursing for a few days to express their milk and store it in the refrigerator for four days or the freezer for a year to prevent engorgement.

In response to a question on whether women with breast implants could breastfeed, she stated that because breastmilk is produced via ducts in the breast tissue, a mother who had implants would not be able to do so.

She said that the ducts may not be able to produce milk depending on the type of breast implant.
